Liberty Media przejmuje kontrolę nad F1

Liberty Media potwierdziła rozpoczęcie procesu przejęcia praw do serii. W pierwszym kroku dojdzie do zakupu 18,7% udziałów, a najpóźniej w pierwszym kwartale 2017 zostaną przejęte pozostałe udziały. Całość transakcji jest wyceniana na 4,4 miliarda dolarów.

Tak jak wcześniej sugerowano Chase Carey stanie na czele podmiotu kontrolującego prawa do serii. Bernie Ecclestone utrzyma swoje dotychczasowe stanowisko.

Umowa jest dość skomplikowana bo oprócz płatności w kwocie 1,1 miliarda dolarów przewiduje również przekazanie CVC udziałów w Formula 1 Group, która powstanie na bazie Libery Media. Mimo, że CVC będzie w posiadaniu 65% udziałów, to jednak pakiet kontrolujący będzie miał John Malone.

Nadal małym znakiem zapytania, pojawiającym się wokół umowy jest konieczność uzyskania zgody FIA na przejęcie praw do serii, konflikt interesów (FIA jest w posiadaniu 1% udziałów) oraz zachowanie Komisji Europejskiej. Liberty Media planuje przejąć pełną kontrolę nad serią najpóźniej w pierwszym kwartale 2017 roku, ale wspomniane wątpliwości mogą sprawić, że proces będzie ciągną się latami.
